Polyhedron in steel

Polyhedron in steel

$1,000.00

This is a truncated triangular trapezohedron. I constructed it by stretching the sides of a rectangle into parallelograms, and truncating the equilateral pyramid shapes off of the two opposing ends. By using whole number proportions for my math, I think I yielded a pleasing shape. No matter how it is placed, it will always have a horizontal top, and no plumb faces, this causes the shape to change for the viewer as you walk around it. This example is in naturally rusted mild steel, but could be sanded and clear coated, painted, powder coated, or constructed in stainless steel or bronze plate as well. I can also construct them in different proportions and sizes within reason.

32 inches long by 17 inches high (nice coffee table height)

I was first introduced to the shape by the German Renaissance artist and thinker Albrecht Dürer in his 1514 engraving Melancholia I
